The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
