Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure said the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
